Job Description:
Staten Island Academy, the oldest private and only independent school in the borough, is embarking on an exciting and ambitious new development program and is looking for a dynamic, creative and passionate individual to join the team. A donor-centered approach to fundraising is at the core of our program, and the perfect candidate will be a charismatic and detail-oriented professional with a healthy respect for tradition and ability to think and work outside-of-the-box. The Alumni and Parent Coordinator reports directly to and works closely with the Director of Development (DOD) in a department consisting of three full time employees, and a part time administrative assistant. The Assistant Director of Development should be a generalist, and will show drive, initiative and a creative spirit.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:

Alumni Relations

•Build and staff a new Staten Island Academy alumni network.
•Design and implement an ongoing series of reunion programs and special annual events for Academy Alumni, including coordination of Annual Giving events.
•Reach out and engage alumni using a variety of communications tools and avenues.
•Work with current students to generate ideas, energy and enthusiasm about connecting with, and ultimately becoming, passionate alumni.

Parent Relations

•Serve as Primary Liaison with Parents’ League
•Submit Facilities Request forms as required
•Secure Rentals for events as needed
•Prepare name tags for welcome back BBQ and other events
•Point person during the set up of all PL events and activities
•Create publicity plans for PL events and activities
•Distribute Class Directory to class reps
•Organize fall class rep dinner
•Meet regularly with PL president and officers
•Coordinate PL materials, including New Parents’ Guide, fliers, invitations, etc.
•Coordinate yearly PL calendar and enter events online
•Attend PL Finance Committee meetings and event planning meetings.

Event Management
•Organize and/or attend planning and follow-up meetings
•Organize and manage volunteers
•Prepare and manage budgets
•Submit and confirm all Facilities Requests
•Contract with venues and vendors
•Prepare and manage timelines
•Track RSVPs
•Serve as point person at event

Departmental Support

•Be a key player in the production of Staten Island Academy fundraisers and special events.
•Become active in the School daily life, attending community events, faculty and staff meetings, and student activities.
•Occasional night and weekends required.
•Other special projects and duties as assigned.


Job Requirements:
•BA/BS required.
•Three-five years of fundraising experience, alumni development and/or event experience highly preferred.
•Computer literate, including strong skills with Microsoft Word, Excel, and Power Point. Knowledge of Raiser’s Edge is preferred but other fundraising software/relational database experience is acceptable.
•Strong interpersonal skills; ability to work both independently and within a team-oriented environment. Ability to be highly organized, able to balance priorities, and willing to take initiative.
•Ability to act professionally with highly involved volunteers and Board Members and handle confidential and sensitive information with appropriate discretion and judgment.
•Strong communication skills.
•Strong writing skills and experience in writing donor letters, grant proposals, and marketing collateral.
•A results-oriented team player with high ethical standards and a commitment to, and enthusiasm for, philanthropy and institutional development.
•Ability to have a flexible schedule and be available for occasional evening and weekend events and activities.
