Job Description:
Responsibilities:
1.Provides leadership and strategic direction to the Accessory Buying Team in order to achieve and exceed business goals and drives category specific sales growth to increase bottom line profit.
2.Develops and adjusts strategies, objectives and priorities for the Accessory Team. Designates financial, product, pricing and promotional objectives and provides direction to the team in order to generate maximum sales, gross margin and profit.
3.Partners with Merchandise Planning, Marketing and Logistics Teams as appropriate on planning sales, margins, mark ups, discounts, promotions, events and advertising.
4.Directs and controls the activities of accessory merchandise selection, pricing, product design and development to ensure alignment with the overall company business directions and guidelines.
5.Understands the Company's target customers and their demands; researches the competition to assess their product and pricing mix; identifies new accessory business opportunities with products, assortments and concepts.
6.Oversees product development activities; communicates and coordinates with the vendors to develop an exclusive product line in line with business and category needs; consults with the Imports Sourcing Department to assess new style offering.
7.Participates in domestic and off-shore buying trips, trade shows, and manufacturer site visits. Attends fashion and trade events to remain abreast of current accessory trends and innovation.
8.Reviews weekly and monthly sales summary reports, including short/long term recommendations, replenishment order requirements and markdown requests.
9.Investigates and resolves product quality, quantity, pricing and related issues with suppliers and negotiates appropriate resolution.
10.Provides input into visual and marketing promotional plans, media promotions, in-store marketing initiatives, signage and display to ensure that sales and profit targets are met.
11.Tests and measures small product runs regularly to assess potential new style opportunities.
12.Visits mall stores and factory outlets regularly to assess product movement, presentation and competitive market activity; obtains sales associate and customer feedback to monitor local and regional needs, trends and competitive offerings.
13.Completes other tasks and assignments as required by management; complies with Company's policies and procedures.



Job Requirements:
Qualifications:
Equivalent of post-secondary school education combined with related experience as a Merchandise Manager in a specialty retail/product development buying organization with a preferred background in handbag purchasing and merchandising, ideally including leather and suede fabrication
Fashion conscious and trend aware with a highly developed taste level and an appreciation of elegance, sophistication, style and lifestyle fashion demands of the target consumer group
Proven ability to manage a multi-million dollar sales budget
Strong knowledge of Canadian competitive marketplace, i.e. trends, key competitors, price points, etc.
Strong demonstrated mathematical, analytical and problem solving ability along with advanced skills in Microsoft Excel , Word, PowerPoint and merchandise assortment planning systems
Team player with the ability to remain focused on goals; able to recognize opportunities to collaborate / assist with fellow team members; extremely adaptable, positive and flexible to change
Excellent written and verbal communication skills in addition to well developed negotiation skills
Previous exposure to a vertically integrated organization with internal manufacturing operations an asset
Experienced with international travel and available and able to travel domestically and abroad for up to several weeks duration on a quarterly basis or as required to meet the needs of the business
