Responsibilities: In consultation with superior and subordinate supervisory personnel as an appropriate, develops short- and long- term goals and plans for the actuarial department. Oversee completion of loss reserve. Reviews and prepares financial statements. Work with product management and underwriting associates to determine revisions to rates and rating plans. Work with the business unit’s management to mitigate potential catastrophe losses and assessments. Oversee preparations of rate filings and prepare responses to questions from Insurance Regulators. Complete special projects including catastrophe analysis and predictive modeling. Provide support for the business unit's yearly plan and reinsurance renewal. Prepare Actuarial opinion. Oversees preparations of rate indication analyses based on historical experience Hires, develops, and evaluates subordinate personnel or makes actuarial recommendations in such matter. Develops function-specific orientation and training programs for area personnel. Establishes standards for effective job performance and evaluates subordinates according to such standards. Delegates these responsibilities to supervisory personnel as appropriate. Responsible for the development and maintenance of an effective organization for the actuarial department a) efficient work flow patterns; b) established performance standards; c) effective delineation of duties and responsibilities; d) suitable staffing levels; e) appropriate supervision; and f) systems for timely communication of pertinent information. Responsible for the development, implementation, documentation, and monitoring of an ongoing quality assurance program for area(s) of responsibility. Ensures compliance with regulatory agency guidelines and standards.
