Job Description:
The incumbent must possess skill and knowledge regarding the supervision of trades and craft work which employs low skilled and very poorly motivated workers. The incumbent trains inmate workers in manufacturing, re-manufacturing, maintaining, repairing or up-fitting a wide variety of vehicles, equipment, and various automotive vehicle components. The incumbent assigns, directs, and reviews inmates' work. Under the supervision of the Assistant Factory Manager or Factory Manager, he/she plans, schedules, and coordinates work operations using the shop floor control module of SAP. Incumbent must also solve work related problems in addition to determining materials and equipment necessary to produce a final product. The incumbent is responsible for enforcing high standards of cleanliness, sanitation and all Prisons policies. Incumbent is responsible for monitoring and enforcement of all and other safety regulations to maintain a safe working environment for fellow staff and inmates. The incumbent inspects the quality of work being performed and certifies that such work meets specifications contained or referenced in technical manuals, shop manuals, change bulletins, and/or the manufacturer's commercial technical or assembly data. The incumbent is responsible for maintaining accurate production status and technical reports. He/she supervises and maintains both operational and safety conditions of various types of machinery and equipment used to perform all relative manufacturing, re-manufacturing, maintenance, or up-fitting functions. The incumbent records inmate work hours for payroll purposes and accurately tracks the cost to produce re-manufactured and reconditioned goods. Incumbent will be required to become proficient in the use of computer based shop floor control hardware and may have to instruct others in its use. Incumbent must keep abreast of current procedures, information and equipment and recommend changes as new technology and industry advances occur.
