Job Description:
Manages the maintenance on irrigation structures, canals, ditches and equipment, equipment acquisition, financial management and Operation and maintenance billing and collection. Plans maintenance efforts three to five years in advance and meets with water user cooperatives, individual users and/or their representatives and with landowners to present these plans. Meets with public and individuals on a routine bases during the water delivery season. Through subordinates, measures water usage and employs the beneficial use concept to conserve water and land. Controls the rate of delivery and total amount of water delivered per season in accordance with standard irrigation practices and judicial decrees. Resolves individual issues with the water users and coordinates work loads to accommodate correction of immediate problems experienced with water delivery. Provides advice to tribal government officials and conservation project leaders on the optimum and alternate strategies, development and implementation of water programs and moisture use plans due to frequent tribal and individual landowner changes of objectives.
