Job Description:
Police Officer's of the Wilton Police Department respond to emergencies in Wilton, conduct investigations, and affect arrests when appropriate.
Job Requirements:
Minimum requirements are graduation from a high school or successful completion of a GED, with no felony charges, serious misdemeanors, domestic violence, must have a valid Maine driver’s license upon certification. Applicant must meet all the requirements of the Maine Criminal Justice Academy. The candidates will have completed a the pre-service 100 hour certification course or a bull time basic law enforcement course. Out-of-state applicants must meet the Maine Criminal Justice Academy requirements within one year of employment. Preference will be afforded to full time certified peace officers. The Wilton Police Department will assist all applicants through the lateral process. Out of state applicants typically travel to Maine once prior to employment. Applicants must successfully pass a suitability screening, agility test, oral board screening, physical exam, and intensive background investigation. Depending on certification level, a psychological test may be required but a polygraph test is mandatory. An applicant must successfully complete a field training program, and a probationary period. This list of requirements is not all-inclusive and may vary by order of the Chief of Police. The Wilton Select Board has the final authority to hire the police officer applicant.
