Job Description: Patrols in a radio-equipped car; answers calls for the protection of life and property and the enforcement of City, County, and State laws; conducts preliminary and follow-up investigations of disturbances, prowlers, burglaries, death, or other crimes.
Responds to calls related to traffic incidents and other required emergencies; observes, monitors, and controls routine and unusual traffic conditions; assists and advises motorists and enforces traffic safety laws.
Collects and preserves evidence at accident scenes. Makes arrests as necessary; interviews victims and witnesses; interrogates suspects; searches and transports prisoners; testifies in court.
Serves warrants and subpoenas; stays current on laws and procedures required for processing warrants.
Files complaints and performs other work related to processing misdemeanor and felony complaints; prepares reports of arrests and activities performed.
Stops drivers operating vehicles in violation of laws; warns drivers or issues citations; makes arrests as necessary. Maintains contact with citizens and preserves good relationships with public.
Job Requirements: Must be at least 20 years and 6 months at time of written examination.
High School Diploma or G.E.D.
Minimum of 30 college credit hours from an accredited university or two years full time law enforcement experience, (e.g., governmental corrections officer), or two years active duty time in the U.S. Armed Forces.
Must be a United States Citizen at the time of application.
Must have a valid Texas Driver’s License; or be able to obtain a Texas Driver’s License within 30-days of employment.
Meet the minimum licensing requirements established by the Texas Commission on Law Enforcement Officer Standards and Education. Special Requirement
Must pass all phases of the selection process including the physical performance test, in order to be placed on the eligibility list. Must possess, or have ability to obtain, an appropriate valid Texas drivers' license and a driving record which meets current City auto liability insurance requirements. Applicant offered employment
